Symplegmatic Portals

Queerscapes of hybridity, connectedness and bodily transformation.

A substantial group of newly created large-scale scrolls presented with works made between 2017 and 2024, unfolding across SIRIUS in Cobh and RAMPA in Porto.

The exhibition explores what I call “queerscapes”: transcendental spaces of liberation where bodies, alone or in dialogue with nature, interact, mutate and coalesce. The word symplegma carries meanings connected to sexuality and interdependence. Here it becomes a way of thinking through hybridity, gender indeterminacy and fluidity, as well as my own blended cultural experience.

Material and spatial language

Large-scale scrolls

Painted and suspended surfaces move miniature-derived imagery into the scale of architecture and the viewer’s body.

Queerscapes

Figures, plants and abstract forms meet in spaces that resist fixed gender, stable borders and singular cultural readings.

Connectedness

The works treat bodily entanglement as both image and method: a structure of relation rather than an isolated identity.
